Rhysling nomination!

I'm delighted to report that my poem "They Threw Their Daughters into the Sea," which first appeared in the spring 2007 issue of Goblin Fruit, has been nominated for a Rhysling Award from the Science Fiction Poetry Association in the short poem category. Yay!

It's been a couple of years between nominations for me. My only prior nomination was in 2005, for "Witch, You Say."

Audio versions of both of these poems have appeared on SFPA's Halloween Poetry Reading page, but it's not like I'm going to start getting superstitious or anything. (Starts considering which poem to record for this October.) :-)

p.s. As for a couple years between nominations....a three year cycle isn't bad. I'm on the 11 year cycle. A nomination in 1996, the next in 2007, so I'm estimating my next one might be in 2018?

(p.s. just don't tell anyone about the one in 1994 - it screws up the pattern...)

Thanks for the perspective. I'd just assumed you were one of the perennials, like Mr. Boston, et al.

Not a perennial, not yet, anyway.

However, 2018 just came early. (My trusty time machine is working!)

I found out this morning that I do have a nom this year after all....

I have a feeling you'll be a perennial from now on.

Congrats, Karen. As you said on my LJ, too bad about our joint poem, but we are consoled by our individual noms. By the way, if I haven't said it yet, I enjoyed writing with you!

Thanks, John! The feeling is mutual. I've pretty much been in editor mode rather than writer mode for the past year, but once I tie on my writing hat again, maybe we can do another collaboration.
