Raven Electrick had her seventh birthday on Wednesday, and I made her work, mean editor/publisher that I am. She tried to sell me something about child labor laws, but I explained that e-zine years are more like dog years than human years, so she's actually middle-aged. (Yes, I've gone a bit daft from all the slushing.)
Anyway, the Raven and I have been slushing like crazy, trying to get the February submission period behind us, and we're beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel. I've now read all submissions through February 27, yielding 189 rejections, 27 holds and five acceptances. The plan at this point is to push through all the submissions for the last day, and then get to the really hard part, which will be winnowing the holds list. I don't put things on the holds list unless I like them, but something has to go, so the process is always a little painful. I'm looking for five more stories and four more poems at most, so figure your odds from there.
Here's the current holds list. Since LJ still isn't allowing me to make a cut, I've made a table to cut down on the space needed.
The first letter stands for "fiction" or "poetry." Letters two and three are the first two letters of the author's last name. Letters four and five are the first two letters of the story title, excluding articles. The final character is the number for the day of submission in February.
Remember, I still have a bunch of submissions to read from the 28th.
