I've now hit 20 acceptances for Sporty Spec: Games of the Fantastic, and decided it was probably time to create an "official" list at Raven Electrick, linked from the Sporty Spec guidelines, rather than posting the new list here every few days. The Sporty Spec Acceptances list has two new additions, a horror/running poem by James S. Dorr and a dark fantasy/competitive skydiving story by Alison J. Littlewood.
I've now answered all submissions sent through May 27. Even better, I have nothing in the holds folder. I've been trying not to run with a big list of holds on this project, and it has so far seemed conducive to that practice with the "open until filled" policy. At my e-zine Raven Electrick, with the one-month-a-year reading period, I find I have to work with a substantial holds list.
The volume of submissions has increased, however, so response times may begin to slow down a bit.
I also realized recently that despite my obsession for this project and my desire to get everything done yesterday, it's going to take some time. To put it in the parlance of the anthology, this is a marathon rather than a sprint, and I need to pace myself.
