According to a story at SFScope, "Nearly 100 missing minutes of Fritz Lang's 1927 classic film Metropolis have been discovered in the archives of a museum in Argentina....Soon after its release, distributors cut the three-and-a-half hour film into the just-about-two-hour version best known today." Some may also know this film from the 80s variant, which added a contemporary rock soundtrack to the two-hour version. (I have a movie poster for this version.) The production design on the film is mind-blowing--these images will give you some idea, although they're mostly posters:
