Bob came home with a cute story from work yesterday via one of the secretaries in the Biology Department office at Cal State LA, where he is a Professor of Biology. A student had called the secretary and said she was looking for the office of one of the faculty members, with whom she had an appointment. The student was hoping to transfer and was interested in pre-med. The secretary gave her directions and thought that was that. The student called back a while later, and said she was standing in the actual building, but was still unable to find the office. The secretary offered more directions, but the student still couldn't find the office. I'm not sure how many more phone calls ensued, but the secretary finally figured out the problem. The student was at UCLA, which is on the other side of the city, and not Cal State LA, which, of course, is part of a completely separate university system.
I ended up hoping that this student is not planning to be a surgeon. ;-)
