Our culture is so warped when it comes to ideals of feminine beauty. I saw a commercial today for "Falsies" (not what you think), a new mascara from Maybelline. The alleged lure of this mascara is that it will make you look like you're wearing false eyelashes! Um, really!? When did it become an aesthetic goal to look like you're wearing FALSE eyelashes? Even when people wore them, you didn't want to look like you were wearing them. Chalk up another one for our "falsies" culture.

Jack-o'-Spec Lineup

I've now answered ALL submissions for Jack-o'-Spec: Tales of Halloween and Fantasy! I have to tell you I'm VERY excited about this one. We have steampunk Halloweens, post-apocalyptic Halloweens, alternate history Halloweens, outer space Halloweens, and noir Halloweens, not to mention new speculative takes on Halloween perennials, such as haunted houses, witches, ghosts, vampires, and, of course, jack-o'-lanterns. Is the editor allowed to squee? I don't care, I'm going to squee!
